List of resources for the trans traveler and expat communities:
– The Trans Abroad Forum! I have been working hard at making the forum here one of my main focuses. It’s a navigable, digestible, and interactive. If there’s anything you don’t see we can create it and build a resource for the trans people that come after us with the same questions.
– Reddit! There’s a community for most everything from /r/AskTransgender and /r/trans offering generalized trans questions and discussions to /r/AmerExit offering advice for Americans looking to leave to /r/IWantOut offering a wider scope of anyone from any country looking to go elsewhere. I highly recommend searching your questions and asking around communities there as an initial step.
However, be warned: If you go to /r/<insert_country_or_city_here> you’ll find locals who will see your question, but depending on location and phrasing used you may come across anything from complete lack of understanding to outright hostility.
– LGBTMap’s Equality U.S. Interactive Map Probably the best U.S. focused map for queer and trans issues I’ve seen. Lots of data points, filters, and easy to understand color system. If you’re in the US looking to find the safest state near you, this is a wonderful place to start.
– AsherFergusson’s Global Trans Right Index is definitively more outdated than most resources I will be linking here. It was published in 2023 and in trans politics that can seem a lifetime ago when policies shift by the week. However, while not tuned to the latest updates it provides an extremely helpful vibe check of every country.
